MCTIMONEY CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT FOR YOUR HORSE

Are you considering chiropractic treatment for your horse?

There are various reasons your horse may benefit from equine chiropractic treatment wether it is to improve performance, relieve musculoskeletal pain, support rehabilitation or to maintain their general health!.

When does your horse require chiropractic treatment?

Behavioural changes

Horses often will show changes in behaviour when experiencing musculoskeletal discomfort. This may include:

- Swishing their tail or putting ears back, during grooming, tacking up or when ridden.

- Bucking, rearing, or refusing to go forward.

- Refusing or being difficult to mount.

- Throwing head when ridden.

Any changes to your horses behaviour shouldn't be ignored, it is more than likely your horse is trying to tell you something!

performance issues

You may be putting effort into your training but not getting the results or improvements you are seeking. If your horse is restricted by misalignments or experiencing discomfort they might not be able to perform what you are asking. The following are just some of the issues which may be helped with treatment:

- Reluctance to bend one way or both ways.

- Struggling with lateral movements in one direction or both.

- Struggling to relax into the contact or inconsistent contact.

- Struggling to hold the canter or going disunited.

- Rushing transitions.

CHANGES TO THEIR MOVEMENT

Misalignments can lead to subtle changes in your horses movement. Regular groundwork or having someone like a trainer watch you ride can help you to notice changes.

- Does your horse track up evenly?

- Do they swing their quarters one way?

- Do they carry their tail to one side?

- Do they find it easier to bend one way?

Please note that if your horse is lame I will not be able to treat and they will have to be assessed by a vet.

FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY

If  your horse has recently had an accident or fall it may be a good idea to have them checked over. Although they may seem fine it is more than likely it may have caused misalignments or associated muscle spasm, if left this can lead to further compensations through their body.

McTimoney can also help to support recovery following injury if your vet agrees this is appropriate.

TO SUPPORT THEIR GENERAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Most horses can benefit from treatment!

McTimoney can help to support your young horses development and ensure they feel comfortable as their bodies are required to take on a greater work load.

McTimoney can help to ensure ridden horses are moving optimally, improve their range of motion and ensure they are happy in their work as well as preventing injuries.

Older horses or those who have suffered from past injuries or issues will benefit from treatment to reduce stiffness, maintain posture and strength.
