I start my appointments by asking the owner a few questions regarding their animals veterinary history, routine, and workload. This allows me to assess if the animal is appropriate for treatment and how their history may be influencing their musculoskeletal system.
I then assess the animals conformation, musculature, symmetry and overall condition when stood. Followed by a gait assessment at both walk and trot. This allows for me to assess for areas of dysfunction, asymmetry and patterns of movement. This is then followed by the palpation of the spine, pelvis and associated musculature to assess areas of dysfunction and misalignment.
I use a combination of massage, myofascial release and McTimoney animal chiropractic techniques when treating.
McTimoney Chiropractic adjustments involve a fast but light adjustment using only my hands at specific anatomical landmarks along the spine and pelvis. These adjustments allow for improved allignemnt of the spine and pelvis, and improved muscle and nervous system function.
At the end of the session I then work with my clients to form an appropriate aftercare plan for their animal. This may include follow up treatments, changes to exercise routines, or the introduction of specific stretches and exercises.
